Retro Shooter Review: The Ultimate Arcade Experience at Home!

Every now and then, you stumble across a product that instantly takes you back to your childhood—and for me, the Retro Shooter Pandora Box is exactly that. If you’re a fan of classic arcade-style light gun games, buckle up: this is the ultimate throwback experience, and easily my favorite product of the year so far.

Unboxing & First Impressions Right from the unboxing, you can tell Retro Shooter has put some serious thought into this. The packaging is compact and smart, likely designed to breeze through customs (which can be a tricky process for gun shaped tech like this).

I opted for the Gold Package, and it was absolutely packed with value. Here’s what it included:

• 1 Retro Shooter console

• 2 light guns

• 4 infrared sensors

• 2 NES-style controllers

• 2 PlayStation-style controllers

• 2 foot pedals

• All necessary cables and leads

All of this for around $500 AUD, which is excellent value considering what’s included (Compared to some recent console releases...)

Setup: Easier Than Expected Setting up the console and sensors was surprisingly straightforward. The sensors are sleek and low-profile, so they blend in around the TV without being distracting. Assembly of the light guns was a breeze too—just a few screws (and yes, the screwdriver is included). Plugging everything in is a matter of matching USB leads to the right ports—nothing too technical. Even the recoil feature on the guns is customizable. Want the recoil? Plug it in. Don’t want it? Leave it out. Simple.

Bonus: We managed to neatly run all the cables under our coffee table and through the floorboards to keep things tidy.

Loading Games: A Small Hurdle, But Great Support The only real challenge I faced was figuring out how to load the games onto the console. It comes blank, so you’ll need to get the games onto the SD card yourself. I’m not super tech-savvy, but Retro Shooter provided solid support and pointed me toward their active Facebook community. With their help, I had thousands of games up and running in no time.

Performance & Gameplay Once calibrated, the light guns performed beautifully. I was reliving the glory days with Point Blank and even Duck Hunt, with only the slightest (and I mean slightest) delay in response on a few games. EDIT Retro Shooter have helped me out with some delay issues by giving me some helpful tips.

If you are far away from your TV you can unscrew the lenses on the guns to help with the delay.

After these tips the delay issue has been resolved!

Final Verdict: Worth Every Dollar Yes, it’s a bit of an investment—but for what you get, it’s absolutely worth it. Between the nostalgia factor, the massive library of games, and the ease of use, I couldn’t be happier with the Retro Shooter Pandora Box and the family all love it! It’s brought back the excitement of the arcade in the comfort of my own home—and that’s priceless. If you’re even slightly a fan of classic arcade shooters, do yourself a favor and check this one out. You won’t regret it.
